Colour Vision: Understanding #TheDress
نویسندگان
چکیده
A widely-viewed image of a dress elicits striking individual variation in colour perception. Experiments with multiple variants of the image suggest that the individual differences may arise through the action of visual mechanisms that normally stabilise object colour.

Evolution of vertebrate colour vision.
Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in learning how colour vision has evolved. This trend has been fuelled by an enhanced understanding of the nature and extent of colour vision among contemporary species, by a deeper understanding of the paleontological record and by the application of new tools from molecular biology. This review provides an assessment of the progress in understand...
متن کاملDifferences in illumination estimation in #thedress.
We investigated whether people who report different colors for #thedress do so because they have different assumptions about the illumination in #thedress scene. We introduced a spherical illumination probe (Koenderink, Pont, van Doorn, Kappers, & Todd, 2007) into the original photograph, placed in fore-, or background of the scene and-for each location-let observers manipulate the probe's chro...
متن کاملA System for Finding Changes in Colour
We acquire a great deal of information about the world about us by perceiving the colour of objects. We can manage without colour, but certain tasks can become rather difficult telling ripe from unripe fruits, or finding green tennis balls lost in grass, for example. Yet colour information is seldom used by the machine vision community, although, given the present state of image understanding t...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of local colour invariants
In this paper, we compare local colour descriptors to grey-value descriptors. We adopt the evaluation framework of Mikolayzcyk and Schmid. We modify the framework in several ways. We decompose the evaluation framework to the level of local grey-value invariants on which common region descriptors are based. We compare the discriminative power and invariance of grey-value invariants to that of co...
متن کاملFace-based Chromatic Adaptation for Tagged Photo Collections
Colour constancy is the phenomenon where the chromaticity of a surface material appears to remain constant to an observer under different illuminants. Studies have shown human vision exhibits colour constancy to varying degrees. Digital camera sensors completely lack this property, resulting in pictures with unsightly colour casts. This paper presents a method for semi-automatically removing co...
